Another scorching day in the desert
So, today’s high temperature in the lovely city of Boise, Idaho was 107 degrees. Thankfully though, it only felt like 102, according to weather.com. ;)
It was actually hot enough to melt off the trim panel on the outside of my Explorer. Now, I cant open the rear door without having the front door open first. Seems like I get this fixed once a year.
Unfortunately, it looks like this weather is supposed to be like this through the end of the week. Ugh, I hate weather this hot. It just takes all the life right out of you.
MovablePoster v1.0.1.5
With the 100th post to my blog, I thought I would provide a fun post for everyone. This post contains details for a new version of the MovablePoster plugin.
This new version addresses two fairly significant features:
Default categories are now working. (Ok, everyone, you can stop dancing on your desks now… ;)). To get default categories to work, you will need to enter the names of the categories in the categories box in your Outlook post. The first category entered there will be the default category to the post. You can make this a little more user-friendly by adding the categories to Outlook. Please feel free to contact me if you need any clarification on what I mean by this.
According to Greg, Outlook doesnt provide any way of overriding the category listing, so this will be a manual process. However, once done, you can select your post categories via a checked listbox interface.
The second feature added was configurable removal of line breaks. The default here is to strip linebreaks out (so as to not break any existing impelementations). However, if you go to the configuration dialog, there is a checkbox on the general tab which should handle this appropriately now.

As always, comments and requests are welcomed.
Music to code to
So, an informal poll…
When developing, what music do you tend to listen to?
Myself: either Pink Floyd (The Wall is the best) or Depeche Mode. Either one seem to bring my mind a little sideways, which is usually quite effective in solving problems that come up.
Website usability gripes
One of the absolute biggest gripes that I have with websites seems to have turned into a hot “feature”.
I absolutely despise it when websites insist on setting focus to a control on a website after its finished loading. The issue really comes into play on the “improved” http://www.msn.com. On this site now, the focus automatically comes to the search textbox towards the top of this page. This is quite frustrating, since this is my browser’s homepage. Because of this feature, 75% of the URL that I type into the address bar ends up in this search textbox. *ARGH*.
Other lovely uses for this feature are on some of my credit card sites, where I type my username, hit tab and get halfway through my password, when it sets the focus to the username field, promptly displaying the second half of my password in the username field.
Have any website gripes of your own? Feel free to comment.
